Sherlock star Amanda Abbington has quit Strictly Come Dancing 2023 after pulling out of last week’s show on medical grounds. Hours before the news was announced that she was leaving the show, her fiancé Jonathan Goodwin shared a cryptic post to Instagram. Jonathan showed a photograph of himself posing in the mirror and the caption read: “We can be so hard on ourselves… be our own worst critics… But before you judge yourself… make sure your mirror is clean.”

Amanda Abbington has posted on her own Instagram about quitting the show and has said: “It is with deepest regret that I had to leave Strictly. I did not come to this decision easily or lightly but for personal reasons I am unable to continue. It was an absolute joy working with my fellow contestants, they are a beautiful, hardworking and talented group of people who I love and who I will miss seeing every Friday and Saturday and competing alongside. She then concludes by saying “Thank you to everyone who voted and who sent wonderful messages and inspiring support. You are all amazing. Truly. Thank you xxx “

Amanda’s Instagram has been flooded with support. Fellow contestant Krishnan Guru-Murthy said: “Sending lots of love- we miss you xxx” Strictly pro dancer Karen Hauer said: “Love you,” followed by a heart emoji. 

Who is Amanda Abbington’s fiancé Jonathan Goodwin?

Jonathan Goodwin is an escapologist, who was left with life changing injuries during rehearsals of America’s Got Talent in 2021. The BBC reported that “He was supposed to escape a straitjacket while upside down 30ft in the air in between two suspended cars. Instead, Mr Goodwin became crushed between them as they caught on fire and he fell to the ground.”

Jonathan Goodwin was left a paraplegic after suffering a dislocated spinal cord, as well as suffering from internal organ injuries. He also had third-degree burns, lost his left kidney and had fractures to his legs, ribs and shoulders. Previous to the incident, Jonathan Goodwin appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in 2019. 

Jonathan and Amanda first met through social media in 2012 and got engaged on their first date in Vienna.
