Ms Davidson made the claims after the publication of a limited update on Ms Gray’s investigation into alleged gatherings in Downing Street during lockdown.

In her shortened report, Ms Gray said that there had been “failures of leadership and judgment”.

The Prime Minister has been rocked by the publishing of the initial findings, with calls across the board for his resignation.

She began by stating that she was “upset” by the Prime Minister’s conduct amid the ‘partygate’ scandal.

During her response, Ms Davidson began to look teary and emotional while explaining what impact the Covid rules had on the life of her constituents.

She said: “I am upset and I’m upset because, not just because of things that myself and others that are in my close family and circle of friends missed and had to give up.

“I was working in the Scottish Parliament, I had constituents that lost businesses, I had people that feel guilty that they didn’t go to the care home to see their parents, that they didn’t hug a friend at a funeral because they played by the rules.”

“And now they look at what happened in Number 10 and they feel like idiots and they shouldn’t be made to feel like that.”

Davidson remains a critic of Johnson’s ‘partygate’ antics

Ms Davidson has remained a critic of Mr Johnson during the scandal, previously backing current Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross in calling for Mr Johnson’s resignation.

After the Prime Minister shied away from calls for his resignation prior to the publishing of Ms Gray’s limited findings, Ms Davidson took to Twitter to voice her frustration.

She said: “Nobody needs an official to tell them if they were at a boozy shindig in their own garden.

“People are (rightly) furious. They sacrificed so much – visiting sick or grieving relatives, funerals. What TF were any of these people thinking?”

Several MPs from across the political spectrum have continued to call for Mr Johnson to step down as Prime Minister in the wake of the ‘partygate’ scandal, including SNP Westminster Leader Ian Blackford, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Liberal Democrats leader Sir Ed Davey.
