Baker spends three months creating astonishing 6ft cake versions of Prince William and Kate Middleton

They look so realistic you might expect them to wave – but these royal lookalikes are actually made from Rice Krispies, marshmallows and more than 100kg of sugar paste.

Royal fans have been left doing a double take after a talented baker unveiled astonishing lifesize cakes of Prince William and Princess Kate – weighing a whopping 130kg.

Cake artist Emma Jayne Morris, 56, spent three months and up to 18 hours a day creating the jaw-dropping royal replicas, which are now stealing the show at Cake International in Birmingham.

Standing at their actual heights, the edible royals measure an impressive 6ft 2in for William and 5ft 9in for Kate. And the attention to detail is extraordinary, with William sporting his red Welsh Guards ceremonial uniform and Order of the Garter, while Kate wears a replica of her famous Alexander McQueen dress from King Charles' coronation.

The mum-of-three, from Aberdare, South Wales, used Rice Krispies, marshmallows, modelling chocolate and around 100kg of sugar paste to bring the pair to life. The enormous creations also contain 20kg of modelling chocolate and more than 500g of royal icing, with Swarovski crystals recreating Kate's earrings, tiara and engagement ring.

Emma admitted the project pushed her to the limit, with some working days stretching from 7am until 2am. She even went without sleep on the night before the exhibition to ensure every last detail was perfect. She said: "We spent three months on them. William is 6ft 2ins and Kate is 5ft 9ins. I'm 5ft 2ins and I needed a stepping stool to finish William's head."

The baker revealed she practically cleared supermarket shelves of Rice Krispies and marshmallows to complete the mammoth project. But recreating Kate proved the biggest challenge. Emma said: "The likeness and the features were hard. Getting the resemblance of this high profile couple was very difficult."

The sculptures recreate the moment William and Kate appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the King's coronation, allowing visitors to pose for photographs alongside the edible royals.

Emma has previously wowed visitors with cake creations of Tutankhamun and King Charles. And after three months of painstaking work, her latest royal masterpieces are certainly a sight to behold.
