Will it snow this week? When will snowfall return - latest Met Office weather forecast after Storm Goretti

Heavy snow fell across the UK last week as Storm Goretti swept across the country.

Storm Goretti swept across the Channel to the UK on Thursday evening and into Friday, battering the Isles of Scilly and Cornwall with hurricane-force winds and covering much of the UK with snow. Currently the Met Office has not issued any more weather warnings for snow this week.

Instead there are ice and rain warnings on Monday and Tuesday in Scotland. The Met Office warns: “Areas of heavy rain will affect western and northern Scotland on Sunday and Monday.

“During Sunday, as the rain initially moves in, this will readily fall as snow away from lower elevations near the west coast, but as it turns increasingly milder, snow will turn back to rain widely across the warning area. 40-60 mm of rain could fall quite widely across the warning area, but 80-110 mm of rain is possible over parts of Skye, Lochaber, Argyll and the Trossachs. This coupled with a rapid thaw of lying snow brings the possibility of some flooding.”

There is no mention of snow in this week’s weather forecast. The Met Office says for Tuesday: “Sunshine and blustery showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Cloudy for England and Wales, with further spells of rain, which will be heavy in places. A little colder.”

For Wednesday through to Friday it adds: “After a frosty start, Wednesday should be dry and bright but chilly. Wet and windy weather pushing northeastwards through Thursday, followed by blustery showers on Friday. Milder in the south.”
