The ex-attacking midfielder, who is considered one of the greatest Chilean playmakers and praised by the likes of Pele, was taken into custody after a woman claimed that he had assaulted her. The unidentified woman, who is believed to be a tattoo artist, said that she woke up in the 41-year-old’s apartment with memory loss after having two cocktails with the athlete at a restaurant in Santiago, Chile.
The woman said that the pair had originally met to discuss plans and designs for a tattoo. Valdivia has denied claims of sexual assault, saying in a statement that he had consensual contact with the woman.
