An intense boxing feud, which has lasted nearly two decades, will be settled this weekend as Amir Khan and Kell Brook face each other in the ring to settle their bitter jealousies once and for all.

Both aged 17, the two boxers had an infamous sparring session in 2004 during a training camp for England Boxing in 2004 and their famous feuding has been present ever since.

Brook had been focusing on professional boxing, but had won an amateur tournament allowing him entry into the England camp.

Meanwhile Khan was a prodigious talent and would soon go on to win a silver medal just a few months later at the 2004 Olympics.

The two fighters have clearly resented their rival’s route to the top of their field with each believing the other’s route to be easier.

While Khan has spoken to Sky Sports saying that he “was the better fighter at the time. I was levels above him. Kell just can’t let it go. He remembers, and it must tarnish him,”, Brook’s father suggests that there was a political element to the decision for Khan to receive the Olympic nod over his son.

Terry Thompson, also speaking to Sky Sports, said: “I’ll tell you what happened. They were of a similar pedigree. They both won the ABAs. Amir gave Team GB an ultimatum about the Olympics. They didn’t want to have egg on their face. So Amir went to the Olympics and Kell didn’t. “

While a battle might be settled in the ring, neither boxer is ever going to concede that one had an easier ride than the other and, as The Gloves are Off showed, one of Britain’s biggest grudge matches should be one of the most passionate fixtures in recent times.

What happened on The Gloves are Off?

As is tradition on Johnny Nelson’s The Gloves are Off show, the two boxers scheduled to fight are meant to shake hands at the end of their discussion.

After several arguments, Brook’s tension rose and he said: “You are going to get knocked out, Amir”, with Khan responding by saying “I can see right through you. You have lost the fight already. You are empty inside. You are scared.”

Nelson then asked if the two were going to shake hands and while Amir Khan held out his hand to shake the hand of its most fierce rival, Brook said he would only shake Khan’s hand after the fight.

Khan and Brook will finally face each other on Saturday 19 February 2022.

The main card is set to get underway at around 6pm GMT with the main event ringwalks schedule for 10pm GMT.
