Ronaldo has amassed his goals from four tournaments so far and will be hoping to add to his tally at Euro 2020 where he could be the first player to feature in five Euros.

He was one of six players to finish the 2012 tournament with three goals to his name.

Platini, however, did all his work in one summer at the European Championship held in France in 1984, where the forward scored nine goals in just five tournament matches.

He scored two hat-tricks in the group stage to help his cause, the extra-time winner in the semi-finals and the all important first goal of the final as France lifted the trophy.

What makes Platini's performance all the more impressive is that back then the tournament only consisted of eight nations, meaning he played just five matches for his nine goals.

Who has scored the most goals for England at the Euros?

Alan Shearer was crowned the golden boot winner at Euro 96, as England made it through the semi-finals before being knocked out by Germany on penalties.

Shearer, who scored 30 international goals for England overall, holds the record for the most goals scored at the Euros for the Three Lions with seven.

It is good enough for third position in the all-time list behind Platini and Ronaldo.

Wayne Rooney, who burst onto the scene at Euro 2004, has six goals to his name and the consistent midfield presence of Frank Lampard has scored three Euros goals.

Who has scored the most goals for Wales at the Euros?

Gareth Bale has scored the most goals for Wales at the Euros with three, one ahead of Hal Robson-Kanu who took the 2016 tournament by storm.

Aaron Ramsey, Neil Taylor, Sam Vokes and Ashley Williams have all scored once for Wales at the Euros.

Who has scored the most goals for Scotland at the Euros?

Scotland will be looking to make up for lost time when they take to the field at Euro 2020 - their first outing in the tournament in 25 years.

The Tartan Army have featured just twice at the Euros and scored four goals in all, with Gary McAllister, Brian McClair, Ally McCoist and Paul McStay with one each to their name.

Who has scored the most goals for Northern Ireland at the Euros?

Northern Ireland have made just one appearance at the Euros, in 2016, and even qualified from the group stage in a 24-team tournament.

Gareth McAuley and Niall McGinn scored the goals in a 2-0 win over Ukraine.
