Scotland continue their bid to secure a spot at next year’s World Cup finals in Qatar as they look to build on last month’s fantastic 1-0 win in Austria.

The Scots will face Israel at Hampden, in what will be the seventh meeting of the two nations in the past three years, before a tricky away trip to the Faroe Islands.

It will be crucial that Steve Clarke’s side pick up positive results from both games, ideally six points, to give themselves the best opportunity of securing second spot in their qualifying group at a minimum.

Who are Scotland playing?

As part of their Group F qualification campaign, Scotland will face Israel at Hampden Park before travelling to the Faroe Islands.

We are in the second half of the group stage fixtures and the Scots last meeting with Israel ended in a 1-1 draw in Tel Aviv while they followed that up wth a 4-0 home win over Faroe Islands at Hampden back in March.

When do Scotland play Israel and Faroe Islands?

Scotland will host Israel at Hampden Park on Saturday, October 9, with a 17:00 (BST) kick off time.

After that match, Scotland travel to Tórsvøllur where they will face Faroe Islands on Tuesday, October 12, with a 19:45 (BST) kick off.

Tickets for Scotland v Israel officially sold out last month with a capacity crowd expected to fill Hampden for the crucial world cup qualifier.

What does Scotland’s qualifying group table look like?

Scotland currently sit second in Group F, seven points behind leaders Denmark and one point above Israel who sit third.

Austria sit fourth (on seven points compared to Israel’s 10 and Scotland’s 11) and are not out of the race for second spot just yet, but a win either way in the Scotland v Israel match would all but end their chances.

Quite simply, if the Scots win all of their remaining fixtures, they will guarantee second place and a spot in the play-offs at a minimum.

Here’s how the play-offs work:

• The ten group runners up along with the two best Nations League group winners take part in the play-offs.
• Only three teams will make it out of the play-offs, which are divided up as six semi-finals and three finals.
• The best placed runners up (finishing second with the most points and best goal difference if necessary) will be seeded and will play their single leg semi final at home so it’s important to finish as strong as possible.

Although they can still technically finish the group as winners and qualify automatically, it would require a spectacular collapse by, as yet unbeaten, group leaders Denmark.
