Manchester City finally dropped points over the weekend after previously winning 12 matches in a row.

The draw against Southampton meant Liverpool and Chelsea were able to narrow the gap with wins over Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

Victories for Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City also led to their scorers’ inclusion in the Team of the Week.

Goalkeeper

Garth Crooks chose Liverpool’s Alisson in his Team of the Week after a superb performance against Crystal Palace.

A number of exceptional saves helped the Reds take the three points home, while Patrick Vieira’s side will be disappointed with the result.

Defenders

Kyle Walker-Peters makes it into the TOTW after his goal against Manchester City helped claim the point off the current league holders.

Virgil Van Dijk, Aymeric Laporte and Thiago Silva make up the defence - with the trio all netting over the weekend.

Van Dijk opened the scoring for Liverpool at Selhurst Park and Crooks criticised the Eagles, describing the Dutchman as the ‘most dangerous player in the box on set pieces’.

Midfielders

Jonjo Shelvey finds himself in Crooks’ TOTW after his vital goal for Newcastle United handed them only their second league win of the season.

Joao Moutinho also provided Wolves with their opening goal in their 2- win over Brentford, while Bruno Fernandes is also included after Manchester United’s narrow 1-0 victory against West Ham.

The Red Devils have taken seven points from their previous three matches and Crooks has claimed that Fernandes is the player ‘at the heart of this mini renaissance’.

Forwards

It is no surprise to see Josh Sargent up top in Garth Crooks’ TOTW after he bagged a brace against Watford as Norwich City finally moved out of the relegation zone.

Towards the opposite end of the table, wins for Chelsea and Man United mean there are places for Hakim Ziyech and Marcus Rashford in the team.

The Chelsea star scored a beautiful goal against Spurs yesterday - making it two goals in two matches for the former Ajax man.

Meanwhile, Rashford sent Old Trafford into hysterics as he netted the only goal of the game with only seconds remaining on the clock.

The England striker has received plenty of criticism in recent weeks, but he has certainly scored some very important goals for his boyhood club.
