Thomas Tuchel accepts pay cut to be England manager - what was he earning at Chelsea and Bayern Munich?

Thomas Tuchel is set to earn just half of his previous Chelsea salary when he takes over as England manager next year.

As previously reported by NationalWorld, Tuchel - who has previously managed the likes of Chelsea and Bayern Munich - has accepted the position as England’s next manager, following Gareth Southgate’s departure after eight years in charge.

The 51-year-old has signed an 18-month contract, which will begin on January 1 next year. In the meantime, interim manager Lee Carsley will remain at the helm for the Three Lions’ upcoming Nations League matches.

But it’s reported that Tuchel’s salary will be far lower than what he is used to; in fact, some publications are reporting that he will take home roughly half of his old Chelsea salary. At Stamford Bridge, the German earned an eye-watering £10m a year. At Bayern Munich, he also made a healthy annual salary of more than £8 per year.

Meanwhile for England, Tuchel will earn roughly £5m per year. For comparison, Gareth Southgate was on £1.6m when he first took the job, but his salary increased to around £6m over the course of his tenure.

Tuchel is the third non-English manager to take the reins of the international side, following Sven Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello. Described as a serial winner by many, Tuchel is a manager who has won trophies at practically every club he has managed.
