Liverpool FC today confirmed that defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has suffered a hamstring injury ahead of their FA Cup clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend.

“Trent is out with a hamstring, so he cannot be part of England too,” said Klopp.

“Not good news, we will see how long that takes.”

Gareth Southgate’s England squad was announced yesterday ahead of their international friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

Alexander-Arnold was one of nine defenders named in the 25-man squad and would have likely been facing off against Reece James for the right-back spot.

However, only a day after his call-up, the Liverpool star has unfortunately discovered he will miss both friendlies as he hopes for a speedy recovery.

It is unclear whether Southgate will hand, for example, Kyle Walker-Peters a cap to replace Trent, while Joe Gomez or James Milner are likely to take his place in the Liverpool squad.

“Of course to replace Trent is difficult but possible,” Klopp added.

“I don’t know any player who plays like Trent, so its difficult to find a one-to-one replacement.

“We have Milly [Milner], Joe, theoretically we can change the system as well, these kind of things. So we have a couple of options.

“When you look in the past when Milly has had to step up he has done incredibly well. And if not maybe we have a young solution.”

When asked if Alexander-Arnold would be facing weeks out, Klopp said “Yeah.”

The German was unsure when the right-back would be likely to return.

If Klopp is correct and he is out for several weeks, he is likely to miss Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Watford and could possibly miss the trip to Manchester City.
