UEFA Nations League 2022/23 draw: UK time, how to watch and who England, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland could play

Europe’s 55 international men’s teams are set to learn their fixtures over the next two years as the draw takes place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.

The 2022/23 UEFA Nations League groups are set to be drawn as England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland prepare to find out their international fixtures for the next two years.

England and Wales are in League A of the competition alongside Europe’s elite while Scotland are in League B and Northern Ireland in League C.

Countries have been divided amongst four pots per League ahead of the draw meaning we could see a potential Battle of Britain should England and Wales be drawn together.

The matches will take place over 2022 and 2023 with the finals scheduled for 2024.

When is the draw for the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League?

The draw for the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League takes place at 17:00 (5pm GMT) at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.

The first Nations League matches will kick off in June 2022.

How does the Nations League draw work?

55 nations will participate in the competition with League’s A, B and C each having 16 teams.

In League D, the remaining seven teams will be split into two groups of four and three teams respectively.

Teams will face each of their group opponents twice (home and away) over the course of the 2022/23 international fixture calendar.

England will be drawn alongside three of Europe’s elite men’s sides.

Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions are in Pot 3 of Group A which could set up some mouthwatering ties against the likes of reigning champions France, bitter rivals Germany and an all British clash with Wales - and that’s just the make-up of one potential group!

One team from each pot will be drawn into each League group and the pots are as follows:

  1. Pot 1: France, Spain, Italy, Belgium.
  2. Pot 2: Portugal, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany.
  3. Pot 3: England, Poland, Switzerland, Croatia.
  4. Pot 4: Wales, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary.

Who could Wales face in the 2022/23 Nations League?

Wales are in the same situation as England, meaning they will be drawn alongside three of Europe’s elite sides.

Rob Page’s men will be in with one of France, Spain Italy or Belgium as well as one of Portugal, Netherlands, Denmark or Germany.

Also waiting for them are one of England, Poland, Switzerland or Croatia.

Who could Scotland face in the 2022/23 Nations League?

Scotland are in League B of the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League, meaning they will be drawn alongside four of the other nations from the second tier of Europe.

Steve Clarke’s men have fond memories of this competition, using it as their route to qualify for the European Championships in 2021, and could find themselves up against familiar opponents such as Israel and Albania or a eye-catching Celtic clash with Republic of Ireland.

One team from each pot will be drawn into each League group and the pots are as follows:

  1. Pot 1: Ukraine, Sweden, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland.
  2. Pot 2: Finland, Norway, Scotland, Russia.
  3. Pot 3: Israel, Romania, Serbia, Ireland.
  4. Pot 4: Slovenia, Montenegro, Albania and Armenia.

Who could Northern Ireland face in the 2022/23 Nations League?

Northern Ireland are in League C of the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League and will fancy themselves to have a real shot at finishing as a group winner.

They are in Pot 1 for their draw, meaning they could face anyone from the likes of Greece or North Macedonia to Luxembourg or Kosovo.

One team from each pot will be drawn into each League group and the pots are as follows:

  1. Pot 1: Turkey, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Northern Ireland.
  2. Pot 2: Greece, Belarus, Luxembourg, North Macedonia.
  3. Pot 3: Lithuania, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kosovo.
  4. Pot 4: (2 play-out winners tbc in March 2022), Gibraltar, Faroe Islands.
