The tournament comes just weeks after Neil Robertson convincingly beat Barry Hawkins to secure his second Masters title, and the Australian has made an equally strong start to his bid for glory this time around, beating Kyren Wilson 6-4 in their opening clash.

Elsewhere, Mark Williams saw off Gary Wilson in a routine 6-3 victory, while a number of big name stars are waiting in the wings to stake their claims for the trophy.

John Higgins will be hoping to defend his crown after dropping just four sets across the entirety of last year’s tournament, while household names likes Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump are also set to feature.

Meanwhile, two players are making their bow at the event - German Masters winner Zhao Xintong and Iranina talent Hossein Vafaei, who is starting to make a real impact on the upper reaches of the sport.
