The Indian Premier League returned to the stage earlier in September after having been postponed in April due to an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in India as well as in many of the team camps.

This year, several of Englands ’ biggest Twenty20 cricketers have flown out to the United Arab Emirates to take part in the world’s most successful domestic T20 Tournament.

Which England cricketers are playing for Chennai Super Kings?

England all-rounders, Sam Curran and Moeen Ali, are both part of the Chennai Super Kings franchise and are significantly contributing to the current success of the team, captained by Indian cricketing legend MS Dhoni.

Curran has taken 32 wickets in the tournament so far this year with an average of 19.50 and also has a strike rate of 193.10.

Moeen Ali, who recently announced his retirement from Test Cricket, has 261 runs to his name already for CSK this season.

England One-day and Twenty20 captain, Eoin Morgan is back captaining for the Kolkata Knight Riders, who are currently fourth in the League. This is Morgan’s 11th IPL Tournament and he has 107 runs to his name this season, top-scoring on 47 not out.

Jason Roy was not originally part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad 2021 squad, however he has come back into the franchise with a bang making 60 not out in his first match since rejoining.

Which England cricketers are playing for Punjab Kings?

England bowlers Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan have both joined the Punjab Kings.

Fast bowler, Jordan, has only played in three matches for the Punjab Kings in 2021 and has 32 runs as well as two wickets to his name so far.

Leg-spinner Rashid makes his IPL debut this year, replacing Jhye Richardson for the Kings, and has only played in one match where he made little impact, however he shall undoubtedly bring in many wickets for the Punjab Kings once he gets going.

This summer’s batting star of The Hundred Tournament, Liam Livingstone, joins the Rajasthan Royals for the second time. Currently only high-scoring on 25, RR will be expecting much more from Livingstone due to his ability to hit the ball cleanly and his T20 strike rate of 140.

The Delhi Capitals boast the England batsman, Sam Billings, as well as the second international Curran, Tom.

There are, however, several notable names absent from the IPL’s return. Jos Buttler, Johnny Bairstow, Dawid Malan and Chris Woakes all pulled out from the IPL in order to spend time with family before the start of the T20 World Cup which takes place in October.

The Rajasthan Royals are not only without England wicket-keeper batsman, Buttler, but are also missing their two other star international players - Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer.

Fast-bowler, Archer, is taking time out of the game to recover from a stress fracture in his elbow.

The Indian Premier League is currently taking place, with the final happening on 15 October 2021 and it is available to watch on the Sky Sports Channels.
