US news reporter Winnie Dortch fighting for her life after being shot in suspected domestic incident

A US TV news reporter is reportedly fighting for her life in hospital after she was shot in a suspected domestic incident.

Winnie Dortch, 34, was hospitalised after being seriously injured in the incident, which took place in Lakewood, Ohio on Monday, October 7. Local cops have described the incident as a domestic dispute.

Cops from the Lakewood Police Department said that officers were called to the scene on Clifton Boulevard just before 8am after receiving reports of two people arguing. Ms Dortch was found by attending officers on the sidewalk outside the property alongside a man identified as Bryant Carter, 34, from Bedford, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ms Dortch was transported to MetroHealth Medical Centre to be treated for serious injuries. While the relationship between the pair has not been confirmed, Lakewood Police said that Ms Dortch and the gunman were “familiar”.

The journalist worked at Ohio TV news station Cleveland 19 News (WOIO). The station said that the family confirmed Ms Dortch had underwent surgery, which had went well.

WOIO News Director Brian Sinclair said: “This morning, our friend and colleague Winnie Dortch was the victim of a brutal domestic violence attack. She was immediately rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center and underwent surgery for her injuries. Our prayers are with her, her young daughter, and the many other victims of domestic violence in our community. “
