The award winning comedy Schitt’s Creek was a hit with fans and critics alike, and Annie Murphy, who played Alexis Rose, found herself picking up countless nominations for the part - and even bagging an Emmy and a Screen Actors Guild award as well.

After Schitt’s Creek wrapped last year, Murphy is back as the lead in Kevin Can F**k Himself, a role that she describes as “so different from Alexis”.

What is Kevin Can F**k Himself about?

The dark comedy explores the life of Allison McRoberts, who is a woman struggling with her life whilst stuck in an unhappy marriage to her husband Kevin.

The official description from AMC says: “Kevin Can F**k Himself follows the story of Allison McRoberts, a woman we all grew up believing we knew: the prototypical Sitcom Wife.

“She’s beautiful and can take a joke (though she’s usually the butt of them). And she’s married to a guy who must’ve won some sort of marriage lottery, because she looks the way she does and he’s… funny.

“But what happens when we follow Allison out of her husband’s domain? When she finally wakes up to - and revolts against - the injustices in her life?”

The contrasting perspectives and experiences of the characters is highlighted by changing the format of the show depending on whose eye’s the audience is watching through.

For example, when Allison is with her husband Kevin, the show will use a multi-camera setup popular with sitcoms, and also canned laughter - alternatively, when Allison is struggling with her life, it will be shot from a single-camera setup which is used more in dramas.

She said: “It was really important to me, coming off Schitt’s Creek, that I do a character as far from Alexis Rose as I possibly could.

“Not because I didn’t have the best time of my life playing her, but just because I really needed to prove to myself that I could do something else.”

Taking on the role of the husband Kevin is Eric Petersen, who has appeared in shows such as Kirstie, Sydney to the Max and voiced a number of characters on Madagascar: A Little Wild.

Also rounding out the rest of the cast is:

- Alex Bonifer (Superstore, Film Fest) as Neil O’Connor

- Mary Hollis Inboden (The Righteous Gemstones, The Real O’Neals) as Patty O’Connor

- Candice Coke (Indemnity, Proven Innocent) as Detective Tammy Ridgeway

- Raymond Lee (Made for Love, Mozart in the Jungle) as Sam Park

- Brian Howe (Chicago Fire, Westworld) as Pete McRoberts

- Robin Lord Taylor (You, Gotham) as Nick Wyndorff

The show was created by Valarie Armstrong, who has worked on a number of projects in various capacities, such as assisting, story editing and writing for Ten Days in the Valley, SEAL Team and Masters of Sex.

Kevin Can F**k Himself was developed as part of AMC’s “script-to-series”, which opens up writers’ rooms to develop potential shows that, if successful, can move straight to series.

How can I watch - and how many episodes are there?

Originally, Kevin Can F**k Himself aired in America on AMC+ back in June, and won praise with viewers and critics alike.
