Amazon driver caught ‘lobbing’ Christmas parcel from van window before taking delivery photo

A Doncaster mum says she was left furious after Ring doorbell footage appeared to show an Amazon driver throwing her Christmas parcel from his van before taking a photograph as proof of delivery.

An Amazon driver has been caught on camera throwing a Christmas present out of his van window before taking a photograph of the parcel as proof it had been delivered.

Michelle McMahon had ordered two Nivea skincare gift sets worth around £20 from Amazon when the parcel arrived at her Doncaster home on October 25. But instead of walking it to the door, Ring footage appears to show the driver tossing it from the van onto the ground near her car.

The driver then appears to take a photograph of the parcel before driving away. Michelle, 57, said her husband spotted what had happened and came upstairs “fuming”.

She said: “He said Amazon has just been, the van just pulled up, delivered and drove off. He saw him throwing it on the floor on the Ring doorbell.”

Michelle said the delivery photo showed the parcel lying near her car rather than at the front door. She contacted Amazon after watching the footage and was offered either a refund or a replacement.

She chose to have the products replaced. The box was damaged, although Michelle said the items inside were still usable.

She said: “It’s the principle of them lobbing it on the path for anyone to pick up. The box was damaged but it’s fine, I’ll just take them out of the box.”

Michelle said the parcel could easily have contained something much more expensive. “It could have been a £100 jewellery box, it could have been a mobile phone,” she said.

She was also concerned about the number of valuable parcels being delivered in the run-up to Christmas. “It could have been very expensive this time of year as lots of Christmas presents are being dropped off,” she said.

Michelle added: “He didn’t bother to come out of the van.” She said drivers should be taking parcels to customers’ doors rather than leaving them on paths or driveways.

The footage has since been shared online and viewed more than 320,000 times. Commenters described the delivery as “lazy”, “shocking” and “disgusting”.

One wrote: “That’s naughty that. Pure laziness.” Another said: “Shocking. They get lazier by the day.”

Amazon said it expected packages to be handled properly by its delivery partners. A spokesperson said: “We have very high standards for our delivery partners and expect every package to be handled with care.

“We’ve notified the right teams internally and will work with the customer directly on matters related to their package delivery.”
