Emma Heming Willis wrote: “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.
Emma also wrote: This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.

Following her post, Emma Heming Willis was inundated with well wishes. One fan wrote: “You are always going to be loved as a husband, father and grandfather!! In February 2023, Emma Heming shared an update on his condition on Instagram and wrote: "Our family wanted to start by expressing our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce's original diagnosis.”
Emma Heming Willis also wrote: "In the spirit of that, we wanted to give you an update about our beloved husband, father and friend since we now have a deeper understanding of what he is experiencing."

Hide Ad"Since we announced Bruce's diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce's condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD)," she continued. "Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis."
According to the NHS, “Frontotemporal dementia is an uncommon type of dementia that causes problems with behaviour and language.
“Dementia is the name for problems with mental abilities caused by gradual changes and damage in the brain.
“Frontotemporal dementia affects the front and sides of the brain (the frontal and temporal lobes).”

Hide AdIn October 2024, Emma Heming Willis spoke about the impact of Bruce Willis’s diagnosis with Town & Country magazine and said: “Today I’m much better than I was when we first received the FTD diagnosis. I’m not saying it’s any easier, but I’ve had to get used to what’s happening so that I can be grounded in what is, so that I can support our children. I’m trying to find that balance between the grief and the sadness that I feel, which can just crack open at any given moment, and finding joy.”
