A disgraced TV star has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of Phillip Schofield by fleeing to a remote island for a Channel 5 comeback.

Schofield was the star of Channel 5’s recent series Cast Away, which saw the exiled presenter stranded on an island with nothing but a camera. The former This Morning and Dancing On Ice host faced physical and mental challenges while he got to grips with the events that left him jobless.

Schofield found himself an outcast in the entertainment world after having an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a much younger colleague at ITV.

Now, the bookies have listed the other disgraced TV stars who could get the call from Channel 5 - and former BBC host and football pundit Jermaine Jenas tops the list. Jenas was sacked from the BBC in August after it was alleged that he sent inappropriate messages to female colleagues.

Also in the betting odds are Huw Edwards and Michael Barrymore, with an outside shout for Prince Andrew.

Sportscasting.com spokesman Andy Newton said: “Jermaine Jenas had been hotly-tipped to take over from Gary Lineker in the MOTD hotseat, but after his off-the-field misdemeanors he might have to settle for taking a ‘Wilson’ football on the Cast Away island instead.

“Like Phillip Schofield, Jenas could be tempted onto the well-documented Channel 5 show that has a growing reputation for allowing shamed celebs tell their side of the story - in a bid to get his floundering TV career back on track.”
