The original cast from 1997 featured Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr, Ryan Phillippe and Jennifer Love Hewitt. The reboot which has started filming in Sydney, Australia, is set to star Outer Banks actress Madelyn Cline and Riverdale’s Camila Medes.

It looks like it’s bad news for film fans though as last month Sarah Michelle Gellar shut down rumours she will reprise her role as Helen Shivers. Speaking to People the Buffy actress said: “I am dead,” referring to her character who died in the 1997 horror film.

“My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity." She added "So I'm always the one telling her, 'Well, that would happen, or that wouldn't happen with those characters,' so I do have kind of an unofficial job title.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. have been married since 2002 after meeting on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer. They share two teenage children together and in 2024 celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.
