Actress Sofia Seirli has died at the age of 77 in a drowning accident whilst on holiday
Sofia Seirli reportedly drowned while attempting to swim in Fourni, an island complex which lies between Samos and Ikaria, on the Eastern Aegean sea.
Actress Sofia Seirli reportedly tragically drowned whilst she was on holiday. The 77-year-old had attempted to swim between Kamari Beach to the islet of Agios Minas in Fourni, Ikaria, when she was said to have been swept away from strong currents.
The Greek City Times reported that “A friend, concerned by Seirli’s failure to return, alerted the authorities, who later confirmed the tragic incident.”
Actress Sofia Seirli was born on December 1, 1947, in Alexandria in Egypt and after graduating from drama school, worked in theatre and became known for playing the part of Maro Lykogianni, the mother of Zachos, in the TV series Wild Bees.
Tributes have been paid to Sofia Seirli on Facebook, one fan wrote: “What a shame, so heartbreaking! I had recently watched her on the series Mavro Rodo. Loved her in it. May her Memory be Eternal,” whilst another fan said: “May she rest in eternal peace.”
Last month, actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner who starred as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, died whilst drowning whilst on holiday in Costa Rica. On a recently created Instagram page, Malcolm-Jamal Warner Living Legacy, his mother Pamela Warner said: “For those of you who are at a loss, pained by the suddenness of his departure, ache for his presence or just to hear his voice one more time, to see his beatific smile one more time, be comforted that he was at peace and more importantly, he did not suffer."
In July 2025, Batman and Rambo actor Alon Aboutboul died at the age of 60 after passing away after collapsing on a beach in Israel. Although paramedics attempted to resuscitate the actor, they were unable to save the star.
Alon Aboutboul is survived by his four children and partner Shir Bilya, a writer and director. A beachgoer told Ynet that "It happened in an instant. He went into the water and everything seemed perfectly fine. After a few minutes, he suddenly came out of the water, approached people and said he wasn't feeling well, and then they called for help."
“Everyone was really scared, he came out of the water and collapsed on the beach. Everyone wanted to help, and they recognized who it was when he came out of the water. This is a terrible tragedy here this morning, everyone here is in a big shock.
