How long have Shakira and Tom Cruise been friends? Is a romantic relationship on the cards after Miami?

While the Formula One Miami Grand Prix was a star-studded event with the likes of Elon Musk, Emily Ratajkowski, Venus Williams and newlyweds Chris Appleton and Lukas Gage all making an appearance, all eyes focused on Tom Cruise and Shakira.

The pair were seen walking the grid together before lights out where Max Verstappen went on to clinch first place, and were subsequently photographed deep in conversation in one of the hospitality suites. 

Romantics may be quick to hope that Shakira has found love again after her turbulent split from former husband Gerard Pique, especially falling for an action hero such as Tom Cruise, while others may question if a romantic relationship is even on the cards for the pair following their long-term friendship.

As an insider tells Page Six that Tom, 60, is ‘extremely interested in pursuing’ the Colombian singer due to the ‘chemistry’ between them, PeopleWorld takes a look at their friendship that ‘goes way back’.

The Mission Impossible actor has reportedly been a close pal of the "Waka Waka" singer for many years, per El Confidencial, but has become closer as he supported her over the past year.

Not only was Shakira dealing with her high-profile separation from footballer Pique after she realised he was cheating on her with Clara Chia Marti, but the singer also had to be strong for her family when her father author William Mebarak wound up in hospital following a number of health issues.

While supporting Shakira, Tom also valued her opinion as he reportedly called her in 2022 to ask what she thought about his movie ‘Top Gun’ that has since gone on to win an Oscar for Best Sound and pick up an MTV Award last weekend.

According to El Confidencial, “the day [Shakira] received the call, [she] was with her father and she admitted that she had yet to see the movie because she didn’t have time…that same evening a screening was organised for her to watch the movie [with her kids].”

This action may seem like a love note to Shakira or a bit OTT for a friendship, however one must remember that this is the same Tom who allegedly built a football pitch on the grounds of the Church of Scientology to ‘woo’ his friend David Beckham into visiting.

Therefore could this have been a romantic gesture between Shakira and Tom? Could their in-depth conversation in Miami be about life since Pique, potential about joining Scientology or even discussing Top Gun’s latest accolade win?
