Lord Ivar Mountbatten is the star of ITV’s new three-part documentary series Keeping Up with the Aristocrats.

The light entertainment series, which starts on Monday 17January at 9pm and continues weekly thereafter, sees Mountbatten and his husband James Coyle attempt to open a restaurant.

Who is Lord Ivar Mountbatten?

Lord Ivar Mountbatten is a British aristrocrat with an interest in farming, geology, and business.

He was previously a director of the SCL Group, the parent company of Cambridge Analytica.

Mountbatten has three daughters: Ella Louise Georgina (born in 1996), Alexandra ‘Alix’ Nada Victoria (born in 1998), and Louise ‘Luli’ Xenia Rose (born in 2002).

Mountbatten is the only member of the extended British monarchy to be in an open same-sex relationship, and was the first to have a same-sex wedding.

Mountbatten has lived in Bridwell Park (where this series finds him) since 1997; he previously lived in Moyns Park in Essex.

Is he part of the royal family?

Mountbatten, 58, is a third cousin, once removed of Queen Elizabeth II and a first cousin, once removed of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

He is not technically a formal part of the Royal Family, though he is a member of their extended family.

Queen Victotia is his great-great-great grandmother, and he is also a second cousin of Prince Charles through both of their fathers.

What happened to Lord Louis Mountbatten and how is Ivar related to him?

Most people will hear the name Mountbatten and think of Lord Louis Mountbatten. He was played by Charles Dance in the third series of The Crown.

Lord Louis Mountbatten was Prince Phillip’s maternal uncle. He was the last Viceroy of India and the first governor-general of the Dominion of India. Mountbatten is alleged to have been involved in a coup to remove Labour prime minister Harold Wilson from office.

He was later assassinated by the IRA in 1979, after a bomb was planted in his fishing boat.

Lord Louis Mountbatten was Lord Ivar Mountbatten’s uncle.

Who is Ivar Mountbatten’s husband James Coyle?

James Coyle is a former airline cabin services director. Coyle and Mountbatten met at a ski resort in Verbier in Switzerland.

Mountbatten revealed the pair were in a relationship in September 2016, and in 2018 they were married.

Mountbatten’s ex-wife walked him down the aisle.
