John Cena as Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad (Credit: HBO)
Peacemaker, the Suicide Squad spinoff from director James Gunn, will be coming to HBO Max in the US on January 13.
However, the John Cena starring DC Comics series doesn’t yet have a UK airdate – unlike other HBO shows, Peacemaker won’t be immediately available in the UK, and viewers will have to wait a while before seeing the series.
Here’s everything you need to know about Peacemaker.
What is Peacemaker about?
Peacemaker is a spinoff of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which was released in cinemas last year – it starred Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman and John Cena, amongst others, as a group of supervillains and bad guys enlisted to work for the US government.
This series follows John Cena’s character Peacemaker on his next mission – though he seemingly died during the course of the film, a post-credits sequence revealed that Peacemaker was still alive.
Who is in the cast of Peacemaker?
Steve Agee will also be reprising his role from the Suicide Squad movie as John Economos, warden of the prison where the squad are kept between missions.
They’re joined by Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black), who plays Leota Adebayo – an original character created for this series – and Robert Patrick (Terminator 2), who plays Peacemaker’s white supremacist father.
Chris Conrad (The Next Karate Kid) and Nhut Le (Raven’s Home) will both play recognisable DC Comics characters, with Conrad as Vigilante and Le as Judomaster.
The series was created, written, and the majority of its episodes were directed by James Gunn, who’s best known as the director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy series. He’s currently working on a Guardians Christmas special for Disney+, and a third Guardians of Galaxy movie as well.
Where can I watch the trailer for Peacemaker?
You can watch it right here, to get a glimpse of some of that typically irreverent James Gunn superhero action.
When can I watch Peacemaker in the UK?
At the moment, that’s unclear. Normally HBO shows (like Euphoria or Succession) have been available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK simultaneously with their US airdate – however, this isn’t the case with Peacemaker.
Sky Atlantic and NOW TV currently have no plans to air Peacemaker. It’s been speculated that this is because streaming service HBO Max is building up to launch in the UK, which may mean certain contracts need to be renegotiated.
Director James Gunn has assured viewers on twitter that Peacemaker will be available in the UK soon, promising he “just has to work out some things” first.
We’ll update this piece as soon as a formal announcement has been made.
