Starstruck, one of the best shows of 2021, returned for a second series on BBC Three on Monday 7 February 2022. It’s set to arrive in the US on HBO Max on Thursday 24 March.

The romcom was created by and stars comedian Rose Matafeo, who’s joined by Nikesh Patel as her love interest.

Here’s everything you need to know about Starstruck series 2 (which has nothing to do with the ITV talent show of the same name).

What is it about?

Starstruck is about the chance encounter between a normal person and someone unimaginably famous: Jessie (Rose Matafeo) and movie star Tom Kapoor (Nikesh Patel) meet one New Year’s Eve, and keep running into each other over the course of a year.

Gradually, each stumbling missed connection starts to develop into a romance.

Series 2 picks up where Series 1 ended, in the wake of Jessie’s decision not to move back home to New Zealand, and instead stay in London with Tom.

Who stars in Starstruck?

Rose Matafeo stars as Jessie, a normal person who starts a romance with a huge movie star. You’ll recognise Matafeo from appearances on different panel shows like Would I Lie To You? or Taskmaster, from her comedy special Horndog, or possibly from her movie Baby Done.

Nikesh Patel plays Tom Kapoor, the famous actor absolutely starstruck by Jessie. Patel recently starred in Christmas Ghost story The Mezzotint, and can next be seen in Amazon Prime’s horror/mystery The Devil’s Hour. He also previously appeared in the Doctor Who New Year’s special Resolution.

They’re joined by Emma Sidi (Pls Like) and Al Roberts (Stath Lets Flats) as Jessie’s flatmate Kate and her boyfriend Ian.

Guest stars this year include Minnie Driver (Speechless) as Tom’s agent and Russell Tovey (Years and Years) as an arrogant film director.

Is there a trailer?

Yes there is, and you can see Jessie and Tom navigate their newfound relationship difficulties right here.

When and how can I watch it?

Starstruck starts on BBC Three at 10pm on Monday February 7 2022. The series is six episodes long, which will air weekly and be repeated on BBC One.

The whole series will also be available as a boxset on BBC iPlayer.

It’s not to be confused with ITV’s new Stars in their Eyes remake, which is also called Starstruck.

Will there be a third series?

Right now, we don’t know - Matafeo has indicated she only thought of the show as a two season project, but it’s been so popular there’s surely appetite for more from viewers and commissioners alike.

What do reviews say?

In NationalWorld’s review, we said that the most charming show on television is finally back, and praised the series for being both as funny as ever and that little bit more mature too. (Basically, I loved it.)
