Coronation Street legend Charlie Condou joins cast of Doctor Who in the new series

Coronation Street actor Charlie Condou is swapping the cobbles for the Tardis as he joins the cast of Doctor Who. The actor, 51, is best known for playing Marcus Dent in the ITV soap. According to The Sun Charlie is set to take on the role of Gary in the new series alongside the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa)
Charlie made his Coronation Street debut in 2007 and left a year later, but returned in 2011 until 2014. During his time in the soap, Marcus moved in with Maria Connor, but questioned his sexuality when their friendship turned into romance. He later left Weatherfield after saying goodbye to Maria and her son Liam.

Hide AdThe actor isn’t the first Coronation Street star to head over to Doctor as he will be following in the footsteps of former Corrie actors Bruno Langley, Sarah Lancashire and Millie Gibson, who plays the Doctor's sidekick Ruby Sunday.
The new series of Doctor Who is set to be released in 2025. Ncuti Gatwa is the fourteenth Time Lord taking over the role from Jodie Whittaker. The BBC One series began way back in 1963 with William Hartnell as the lead role.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
