Here is everything you need to know about Pieces of Her.

What is Pieces of Her about?

Andy (Bella Heathcote) is celebrating her 31st birthday with her mum Laura (Toni Collette) in a small diner.

The happy occasion is cut short when a man with a gun enters and shoots at people in the restaurant.

Laura jumps into action and reveals that she has skills that don’t fit the image of an average doting mother, and footage of her tackling the shooter goes viral online.

Soon Andy learns that her mother has a mysterious and dangerous past which is coming back to bite them both in the present day.

Laura sends her daughter away to protect her from the danger - but trouble follows as she slowly starts to learn who her mum really is.

The series runs on a dual timeline following modern day Andy solving the mystery and Laura’s childhood and young adult life.

Bella Heathcote (The Neon Demon, Dark Shadows) plays Andy who left her exciting life in New York City to move to rural Georgia.

Toni Collette (Hereditary, Little Miss Sunshine) stars as Laura, the lead character of the show, and Andy’s mother.

Belle Isle, the fictional town where the show takes place, is  slow and sleepy, and very little happens there.

But despite having a US backdrop, the action was filmed in Sydney, Australia in 2021.

The arts sector in Australia started a fund to attract new TV and Film projects to New South Wales after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the industry hard.

Netflix took up this offer and filmed Pieces of Her in Sydney Olympic Park.

Is the film based on a book?

However as the show is based on a stand alone book it doesn’t seem likely that there will be a continuation of Pieces of Her.
