Here is everything you need to know about Pieces of Her.
What is Pieces of Her about?
Andy (Bella Heathcote) is celebrating her 31st birthday with her mum Laura (Toni Collette) in a small diner.
The happy occasion is cut short when a man with a gun enters and shoots at people in the restaurant.
Laura jumps into action and reveals that she has skills that don’t fit the image of an average doting mother, and footage of her tackling the shooter goes viral online.
Soon Andy learns that her mother has a mysterious and dangerous past which is coming back to bite them both in the present day.
Laura sends her daughter away to protect her from the danger - but trouble follows as she slowly starts to learn who her mum really is.
The series runs on a dual timeline following modern day Andy solving the mystery and Laura’s childhood and young adult life.
Who stars in the cast of Pieces of Her?
Bella Heathcote (The Neon Demon, Dark Shadows) plays Andy who left her exciting life in New York City to move to rural Georgia.
Toni Collette (Hereditary, Little Miss Sunshine) stars as Laura, the lead character of the show, and Andy’s mother.
At the start of the series, Laura is portrayed as an average woman who wants nothing more than for her daughter to succeed but Laura has a dark past which the audience sees snippets of throughout the series.
The show focuses on the two main characters and their relationship but other notable roles include Jessica Barden (Hannah, Far From the Madding Crowd) as Jane, David Wenham (The Lord of The Rings, 300) as Jasper Queller, Omari Hardwick (Kick-Ass, Army of the Dead) as Gordon Oliver and Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones, Skins) as Nick.
Where was Pieces of Her filmed?
The Netflix series is set in Georgia, USA.
Belle Isle, the fictional town where the show takes place, is slow and sleepy, and very little happens there.
But despite having a US backdrop, the action was filmed in Sydney, Australia in 2021.
The arts sector in Australia started a fund to attract new TV and Film projects to New South Wales after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the industry hard.
Netflix took up this offer and filmed Pieces of Her in Sydney Olympic Park.
Is the film based on a book?
The series is based on the novel of the same name which was written by Karin Slaughter.
She wrote the novel back in 2018 and it became a bestseller.
This is the first one of Slaughter’s books that has been adapted for the screen.
How can I watch Pieces of Her?
Pieces of Her is premiering on 4 March 2022 on Netflix.
There are eight episodes which are 50 minutes long each.
Will there be a season two of Pieces of Her?
There is not yet an official release date for season two of the show but it is not listed as a limited series - meaning there is potential for renewal.
However as the show is based on a stand alone book it doesn’t seem likely that there will be a continuation of Pieces of Her.
