Tenerife: Boy, 10, hacked to death with machete in horror attack near holiday hotspot Los Cristianos - as mum fights for life
A ten-year-old boy has been hacked to death with a machete in a shocking incident near a holiday hotspot.
The child died earlier this morning after he was allegedly attacked by his dad with a machete inside a house. The Civil Guard were alerted to the incident at around 1am after officers were called about the presence of an armed person inside a home.
When officers' arrival at the scene, there was a stand-off, ending with the alleged assailant, a 34-year-old man, attacking one of the Civil Guard officers with a machete. The man, described as "extremely violent," was shot and killed by police instantly.
The boy's mum was also severely injured by the same weapon and is fighting for her life in hospital with severe wounds to her arms and legs. Residents of Cabo Blanco, a small village near the popular holiday resort of Los Cristianos, Tenerife, have been left shocked and horrified by the tragedy.

The injured officer was taken to a hospital, where he remains and is due to undergo surgery. Initial reports say his life is not in danger.
The mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes, in her first statements to Canarias Radio, confirmed the event and explained that authorities received several calls alerting them to the presence of an armed person in the house. Once the agents searched the property, they found the boy's lifeless body.
According to judicial records, there is no record of complaints against the man who allegedly killed his son and he did not have a criminal record. The case is currently being investigated as a possible case of gender violence.
