The supermarket is urging customers not to eat the item and return it to stores

Tesco is urgently recalling one of its grated cheese items over fears it may contain pieces of plastic.

The supermarket has issued the recall as a “precautionary measure” and advised customers not to eat the item. Affected packs have also been pulled from store fridges.

A notice published on the ‘product recall’ section of the store’s website states that packs of Tesco Creamfields Grated Cheddar 500g with a best before date reading 23/03/23 may contain "small pieces of clear, soft plastic which could make the product unsafe to eat".

Any customers with this product at home have been advised to return it to any Tesco store, where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required for the refund to be processed.

A notice from Tesco said: "We’re recalling one date code of Tesco Creamfields grated cheddar 500g. This is because it may contain small pieces of clear, soft plastic which could make the product unsafe to eat."

"Please do not consume this product and instead return any affected product to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required."

Tesco has recently recalled other products including 55g pots of Tesco Free From Golden Syrup Porridge with a best before date of 01 September 2023, due to the possibility some packs "may contain milk".

Customers who have bought the product who have "an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents" have been asked not to consume the product and return it to their nearest Tesco for a full refund.

Earlier this month 250g packs of Wicked Kitchen Spinach & Wild Garlic Ravioli with a use by date of 12 January 2023 were also ordered for recall.

This was due to the possibility some packs may contain small pieces of metal.
