Coronation Street’s Alex Bain got engaged to his teenage girlfriend at just 20-years old

Coronation Street’s Alex Bain reveals he is engaged to his girlfriend, after proposing a year ago.

The 20-year-old popped the question last October, and has only just revealed the exciting news to his fans.

Alex, who plays Simon Barlow on the ITV soap, has been dating 19-year-old Mollie Lockwood for three years.

In an interview with OK Magazine, Alex revealed that he proposed whilst on a date night in Chester for their two-year anniversary.

The loved-up pair even kept it secret from their friends and family until Christmas, two months later.

A year later, just days after celebrating their three-year anniversary, Alex and Mollie finally opened up about the engagement.

In the joint interview, Mollie explained why they kept it a secret for so long. She said: "We wanted to enjoy that special time together, just the two of us, for a while.”

He then told the publication about the moment he proposed, explaining: "We had a lovely meal, then went back to our hotel, took a couple of bottles of bubbly up to our room and watched the sunset from the balcony.

"That’s when I just asked her. I thought ‘If I don’t do it now, I’ll keep getting more and more nervous!’ I was pretty certain she’d say yes, but I was still bricking it!"

The Coronation Street actor also talked about how he knew Mollie, who he met at performing arts college, was the “right person”.

He told OK Magazine: “I’m a big believer in making that move as soon as you know it’s the right person, and I’ve known that Mollie is my person pretty much since the day we met.

"She’s got my heart and soul already, so why not seal the deal? I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else."

When asked if they were planning to start a family together, Alex - who already has a daughter - said: "I’d love that. Mollie would be an incredible mum.”

To which Mollie added: "I’m sure we’ll have children in the future. Not quite yet, though, we’ve got to both finish our performance training and we’ll get married first."

However, the engaged couple did share that they are currently in the process of trying to find somewhere to live in Chester as it’s close to where Mollie is from.

Talking about the big day, Alex mentioned which of his Coronation Street co-stars would get a wedding invite.

He said: "I definitely want my on-screen mum and dad Jane Danson [Leanne Battersby], Chris Gascoyne [Peter Barlow], and some of the younger members of the cast there.

"I love Jack James Ryan [Jacob Hay], Elle Mulvaney [Amy Barlow] and Millie Gibson [Kelly Neelan] because we’re all roughly the same age so we support each other.

“And of course Bill [Ken Barlow]. He’s an absolute legend so it’d be amazing to have him there."

Mollie is an aspiring actress and model who took on her first professional role earlier this year.

The 19-year-old featured in a television advertisement for Handicare - a stairlift company.

Whilst, Alex has been on our screens as Simon Barlow since 2008 - making over 820 appearances.

At the end of September, he returned to the cobbles after an unexplained absence that went on for several weeks.

The young actor has previously won Best Young Soap Performance at the British Soap Awards in 2011, and again at the Inside Soap Awards in 2014.

Alex became a dad at 17, when his then-girlfriend Levi Selby gave birth to their daughter Lydia-Rose at just 16 years old.
