Sarah Ferguson is "heartbroken" over the death of her former mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II.
The Duchess of York, 62, was previously married to the Queen’s son, Prince Andrew, who she also shares two daughters, Princess Beatrice, 34, and Princess Eugenie, 32.

Following the Queen’s demise, Sarah took to Instagram to make a statement and pay tribute to her former Mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II.

In a tribute on Instagram, the Duchess of York wrote: “I am heartbroken by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen.”
The Duchess continued to praise the Queen, saying: “She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, the most fantastic example of duty and service and steadfastness.”
“To me, she was the most incredible mother-in-law and friend. I will always be grateful to her for the generosity she showed me in remaining close to me even after my divorce.”

She ended it by saying: “I will miss her more than words can express.”
Sarah, 62, had been in Italy, attending the 79th Venice International Film Festival, but earlier yesterday she was spotted at the airport, ready to fly back to the UK.
It has not been confirmed, however, whether she chose to fly back after hearing the news that the Queen was under medical supervision over concerns for her health.

All four of Queen and Prince Philip’s children were said to be at her bedside, Charles, the Princess Royal, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex, as well as the Duchess of Cornwall and the Countess of Wessex.

If the intention to join other family members at Balmoral wasn’t there, then it still makes sense for the Duchess to want to be home to support her grieving daughters.
Last year, Sarah, the Duchess of York spoke to former model, Twiggy for her podcast series, ‘On the Tea with Twiggy,’ during their 40 minute conversation she spoke fondly about the Queen.

She said: “I absolutely admire the incredible way Her Majesty is so modern and how flexible, and how understanding, and how forgiving and how generous.”
“I absolutely think there is no greater mentor. The consistency of Her Majesty has been a great honour. A huge honour. Makes me want to cry.”
