Binley Mega Chippy: Chip shop in Coventry returns to TikTok as new video goes viral three years after trend - is it still open, why was it trending before?
Binley Mega Chippy in Coventry has returned - as a new TikTok has gone viral of the chip shop.
Binley Mega Chippy gained fame three years ago through a viral jingle created by a TikTok user using the app's AI voice generator. The jingle simply repeated "Binley Mega Chippy" to a tune reminiscent of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow”. It went viral, helped by a series of other online videos and memes, drawing national attention to the chip shop.
People from all over the country travelled to visit the chip shop. According to The Guardian at the time, the shop saw minibuses from Dundee, families from Essex and Portsmouth, and even a Portuguese passenger fly in especially.
The chip shop is located on Binley Road, Binley - so you couldn’t really get anymore Binley if you tried - roughly a 15-minute drive from the centre of Coventry. Binley evolved from a small mining village on the outskirts of Coventry to the large residential area it is today.
Now, a new TikTok has been posted of the chip shop resurfacing its interest and fame. The TikToker posted a video of the chip shop with him lying face down outside. The caption reads: “When you turn up to Binley Mega Chippy 3 years after the trend..”.
The video has reached over 2.3 million views and has been shared nearly 10,000 times. One user commented on the video saying: “I almost forgot about Binley mega chippy”. Another added: “Everybody from Coventry was laughing at the people flying from abroad to come and try the below average tasting chips by the way”.
Many users commented asking if the chip shop was still open. And the famous chip shop in Coventry is still well and truly open. It is rated 4.3 stars and it will forever be known as becoming a bizarre TikTok sensation.
