Cornwall and its rugged coast attract visitors from all over the UK. But now, some of these visitors are coming from further afield as a-list celebrities and Hollywood stars are taking to one particular area of the south-west.

The small village of Mawgan Porth - roughly four miles from Newquay - has become the place to be as celebrities seem allured by the quiet life on the Cornish coast and the surrounding countryside. As of this year, celebrities including Jason Momoa, Chris Martin and Cate Blanchett can all call the area of Mawgan Porth their home.

But in the process of building mansions for those setting up bases for a second home, many traditional bungalows have been knocked down.

Development is proving to be a big issue in the area, and Cate Blanchett's £1.6 million home being built by the sea here exemplifies the issue. She is said to be annoying her neighbours as workman drill 'non-stop' at the site where the original home was demolished to build a new five-bed eco-home.

Such is the influx of celebrities here that the area has become dubbed as Hollywood-by-the-sea. According to census data, Cornwall is the most popular area in the UK for a second home.

One resident told the Sun: "When you open a window you hear drilling. It makes our lives a misery. Tourism’s essential here. That disruption hasn’t made the owner very popular."

Responding to the complaints, the architect for the home - Watershedd - said: "Andrew Upton and Cate Blanchett have received planning consent for a sustainable replacement home in Mawgan Porth.

"Modest in size, it has been designed sensitively, sustainably and in consultation with the local planning authority to minimise the impact of development on the beautiful environs."

Jason Momoa was seen earlier this year eyeing up a house on a clifftop in the area.

Other celebrities who are believed to own properties in the area include Jamie Dornan and Stanley Tucci. Jason Statham is another celebrity who has been seen in the area.
