This week will see trick or treaters take to the streets as part of Halloween celebrations - but will the rain stay off?

Those taking part will be knocking on doors on the evening of Thursday, October 31, offering up their best jokes or talents in exchange for sweets and treats. The day also coincides with Diwali, the Festival of Lights, that will see fireworks light up skies.

According to the Met Office, most will be able to knock on doors without interruption and costumes will remain dry, with mild and calm conditions predicted across most of the country. The weather service’s forecast Thursday through to Friday currently reads: “Staying dry, mild, though fairly cloudy. Patchy rain, with occasional brighter or clearer breaks, the latter allowing some fog to form overnight. Wetter and windier in far north at times.”

From 3pm until around 9pm on Halloween night, temperatures will remain in the mid to early teens across the country. There will be highs of 16C in southern England, dipping to 11C in the north.

The majority of the country will remain dry on the evening, with showers only likely to be present in part of central and western Scotland, as well as in small patches in northern England, Northern Ireland and North Wales.
