‘Hell no’: Hannah Waddingham reveals what scared her off Celebrity Traitors

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham has revealed why she turned down Celebrity Traitors, admitting one part of the BBC hit was enough to make her say “hell no”.

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham has revealed she was offered a place on The Celebrity Traitors - but gave BBC bosses a firm "hell no".

The 52-year-old actress said she came close to joining the hit reality show after discovering her Ted Lasso co-star Nick Mohammed was taking part.

But there was one problem. Waddingham admits she is far too much of a "scaredy cat" to deal with the show's creepy hoods, sinister castle and terrifying challenges.

Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show, she said: "I was asked to be on the first Celebrity Traitors in the UK.

"My great buddy Nick Mohammed from Ted Lasso is on it and I nearly did because I knew he was going to be on it, but I'm a great big scaredy cat.

"This whole thing with the hoods and burying people alive - I don't care whether there's a crew there or not.

"Hell no. No. No. I'm going to watch at home with a nice red wine and some crisps."

It means viewers missed out on seeing Waddingham swapping AFC Richmond for Claudia Winkleman's Scottish castle - and potentially plotting against her own Ted Lasso colleague.

Mohammed went all the way to the final of the first Celebrity Traitors, but failed to take home the prize for his chosen charity.

Comedian Alan Carr eventually emerged victorious after successfully deceiving the remaining Faithfuls as a Traitor.

When is The Celebrity Traitors final?

The second series of The Celebrity Traitors is now heading into its dramatic final week, with just two episodes remaining.

Episode nine airs on BBC One and iPlayer at 8pm on Thursday, October 29, before the final begins at 8pm on Friday, October 30.

The bumper finale will run for 80 minutes until 9.20pm, making it the longest episode of the celebrity series so far.

And there is plenty still to be settled.

The latest episode ended on a huge cliffhanger after Joanne McNally and Sharon Rooney were left tied in the banishment vote. King Kenny's deciding vote will reveal which of them is sent packing when the show returns on Thursday.

The Faithfuls are also in serious trouble. Three Traitors - Maya Jama, James Acaster and King Kenny - remain hidden in the castle heading towards the endgame.

They have already picked off a string of famous faces, with Miranda Hart becoming their latest murder victim, while stars including Michael Sheen, Romesh Ranganathan, James Blunt, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Sebastian Croft remain in the fight.

It leaves the Faithfuls with very little time to uncover the trio before Friday night's final showdown.

Waddingham, meanwhile, appears happy to remain an armchair detective rather than risk receiving one of Claudia's ominous envelopes.

The Emmy-winning actress is best known for playing Rebecca Welton in Ted Lasso, alongside roles in Sex Education and a string of film, television and stage productions.

She has also recently appeared opposite Octavia Spencer in Prime Video series Ride or Die.

And despite turning down a trip to The Traitors castle, Waddingham has been back alongside her AFC Richmond co-stars after returning as Rebecca for the fourth series of Ted Lasso.
