Scotland cricket team: Scottish T20 World Cup 2021 squad in profile - from Chris Greaves to Mark Watt

Scotland have taken the early stages of the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by storm with wins over Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea and are on course to progress to the next round of the competition.

Shane Burger’s Thistle’s will advance to the “Super 12” stage of the competition, where they will be joined by the likes of England, India and Australia, if they can get a positive results against one of this year’s host nations - Oman.

They might not be global superstars of the game but the current group of players are earning plaudits for their performances so far and here we take a look at the backgrounds of some of the names catching the eye.

Kyle Coetzer

• Name: Kyle James Coetzer
• Age: 37
• Place of Birth: Aberdeen
• Bowling style: Right-arm medium-fast

The Scotland captain has been heavily involved with the international side since making his debut 18 years ago in 2003.

His first cap was against Pakistan in a one-day match before apearing in four National League matches later that season.

His first ODI century came against Afghanistan in 2011–13 ICC World Cricket League Championship, where Scotland lost.

In June 2018, Coetzer he captained Scotland to a famous six run win over England in a 50 over ODI at The Grange Club in Edinburgh, scoring 58 runs out of Scotland's total of 371 for 5.

Chris Greaves

• Name: Christopher Nicholas Greaves
• Age: 31
• Place of Birth: Johannesburg
• Bowling style: Right-arm leg break

The South African born spin bowler grabbed the headlines with his man of the match performance in Scotland’s surprise win against Bangladesh in their opening match of the World Cup.

He first came on to the scene for the Thistles in June 2019 when selected to represent Scotland A in their tour to Ireland and made his List A debut for Scotland A against the Ireland Wolves.

Greaves made his Twenty20 debut for Scotland A against the Ireland Wolves on June 9, 2019.

Last month, Greaves was named in Scotland's Twenty20 International squad for their series against Zimbabwe and in Scotland's squads for the 2021 Summer T20 Bash and the T20 World Cup.

He made his T20I debut on 8 October 2021, against Papua New Guinea.

Mark Watt

• Name: Mark Robert James Watt
• Age: 25
• Place of Birth: Edinburgh
• Bowling style: Slow left-arm orthodox (left handed)

Watt recently took his 100th wicket in international cricket for Scotland against The Netherlands in May as the Scots won the ODI by six runs and tied the series at 1-1.

He made his Twenty20 International debut against Ireland on, June 18 2015 and his List A debut in the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship against Nepal later that year.

In February 2016 he took his first five-wicket haul in a T20I match, picking up five wickets for 27 runs against the Netherlands.
