Newcastle United have sacked Steve Bruce as manager.
The decision to sack Bruce comes days after he reached the milestone of having managed 1,000 football matches.
That match, a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park, would prove to be Bruce’s last at the NUFC helm.

Owners, including Amanda Staveley, were at Sunday’s match to soak up the first of the new ownership’s tenure at the club.
Bruce has been sacked by the new owners who are keen for Newcastle to be competing at the top end of the Premier League.
He leaves the club second from bottom in the Premier League and without a win from eight games in the 2021/22 season.
Who is favourite to replace Steve Bruce?
Eddie Howe has long been talked about as the next manager of Newcastle United, even while Steve Bruce was still in the job.

Yet there appears to be a new frontrunner in the now vacant position, with ex-Roma boss Paulo Fonseca favourite for the job.
Frank Lampard, Nicky Butt, Chris Wilder and Graeme Jones have all been touted along with Swiss coach Lucien Favre.
