Matt Brooks
With more than 12 years' editorial experience across news, entertainment and sport, Matt Brooks has covered a variety of stories in a range of roles. He was part of the original team that helped launch nationalworld.com in 2021, becoming the website’s SEO editor where he was responsible for identifying opportunities to expand the title’s audience, shaping search specific projects and widening content reach to maximise traffic growth. Matt headed up a team of highly skilled journalists specialising in money, TV and film, gaming, entertainment news, offbeat internet culture, big events, and sport. In June 2023, Matt moved to a content specialist role for nationalworld.com’s parent company National World plc to help strengthen best practices to support editorial teams in optimising content for search audiences. His first foray into the world of working journalism began in local newsrooms for Johnston Press - later JPI Media - for the Worksop Guardian, Derbyshire Times and Sheffield Star where he obtained his senior NCTJ qualifications (NCE / NQJ). He switched desks to produce regional and national work for The Scotsman, Yorkshire Post, and Portsmouth News among others. Matt’s journalism highlights so far include covering a cup final at Wembley Stadium, interviewing England's 1966 World Cup final hero Geoff Hurst and meeting the now King Charles III on a royal press trip at The School of Artisan Food in Welbeck. Born and bred in Nottingham, he completed a masters degree in journalism at Nottingham Trent University and still lives close to the city he calls home. Away from work he likes to spend time with friends and family, getting out on the bike or down to the local golf course, and can sometimes be seen among the City Ground crowd supporting Nottingham Forest on their return to the Premier League.
