When is the next Euros? Dates of 2024 football tournament, where it will be - and will England team play

The 2022 World Cup is the next major tournament to look forward to after Italy beat England in Euro 2020

England have already broken their own national record, despite losing to Italy in the Euro 2020 finals. Reaching the finals was a new feat for the squad of young players.

The team will now be looking to recover from their defeat and regroup, ahead of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

But, Kane and his men might also want to set the record straight and claim the Euros title after coming so close.

So, when is the next European Championships - and which country is hosting? This is what you need to know.

When are the next European championships?

The Euros takes place every four years, two years after the World Cup.

Although this year’s tournament was played on a year which does not divide into four, the Euros usually take place on a year which divides into four (ie, 2020, 2024, 2028).

The Euros played this year had been postponed because of Covid, so there will now only be three years between opportunities to win the coveted cup.

The next European Championship will be held in 2024, with qualifier games taking place in 2023.

The groups will be drawn in December 2023 at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg

Who will host the Euros 2024?

There were only two bids for the Euro 2024 hosting country, Germany and Turkey

The host nation was selected in Nyon, Switzerland, in September 2018. Germany won 14-2 against Turkey, The UEFA Executive Committee voted for the host in a secret ballot.

Former Germany captain Philipp Lahm, an ambassador for his country's bid, said: "We have amazing stadiums, fans who love football, first and foremost we have people who love celebrating with other Europeans.

"We will organise a huge football party in Germany."

Turkey’s lack of progress in human rights and its lack of hotel space in major cities were both “concerns” raised during their bid to host.

In 2024, the tournament will return to a single nation hosting the event, as opposed to right across Europe in the 2020 tournament.

Germany qualifies automatically for the tournament, as they are the hosts.

The other 23 nations will need to battle it out in qualifiers to be in with a chance at winning the International tournament.

What venues will be used to host the tournament?

Berlin will stage the final, while matches will also take place in Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.

There are 10 stadiums in Germany with the capacity to hold over 40,000 spectators, only two can hold upwards of 70,000.

In Berlin, there is the Olympiastadion which holds just below 75,000. The Allianz Arena in Munich holds 70,076 and the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund holds nearly 66,000.

When is the next major international men’s football tournament?

The World Cup, held in Qatar, is the next opportunity for any nation to win a major title.

The qualifiers will be played September 2021 to March 2022.
