When is the IPL 2021 final? Date and UK start time of Indian Premier League showdown - and how to watch on TV

The largest Twenty20 domestic Cricket tournament in the world initially started on 7 March 2021 but had to be suspended just two months later due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in India and within the team franchises.

The IPL eventually resumed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 19 September 2021 with 31 of the 60 matches still left to play.

When is the IPL 2021 final?

The final will take place on Friday 15 October 2021.

Where will the IPL 2021 final take place?

The two finalist franchises will meet at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. While the IPL is usually hosted in India, the Coronavirus pandemic has made it logistically too difficult for the tournament to take place in its homeland.

Therefore, the UAE have been playing host for the remainder of the tournament as this has meant that at least 50% vaccinated spectators could watch from the Stadiums.

Who is playing in the IPL 2021 final?

The Chennai Super Kings will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The first qualifier for the final took place on Sunday 10 October between the top two teams of the competition: CSK and DC.

The Delhi Capitals have been holding the top spot of the league since the tournament resumed, however they were unable to beat CSK in their qualifying match meaning they had to take on KKR in a second qualifying match which they also ultimately lost by three wickets.

KKR played Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday 11 October 2021 and won by four wickets in their first qualifying match.

KKR took on the Delhi Capitals for their second qualifying match on Wednesday 13 October 2021, won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Delhi Capitals totalled 135-5 with Shikhar Shawan top scoring on 39 and Shreyas Iyer scoring 30.

KKR started off much stronger in their innings with Shubman Gill scoring 46 and Venkatesh Iyer top scoring with 55 of 41 balls. The KKR then appeared to collapse as they lost six wickets for seven runs.

With six needed and Ravichandran Ashwin on a hat-trick ball, Rahul Tripathi magnificently cleared the rope to book KKR’s first final in seven years.

Will any English players feature in the IPL 2021 final?

It is highly unlikely that any England players will be present at the IPL final due to their preparations for the International T20 World Cup that starts on Sunday 17 October 2021.

Moeen Ali was a strong and reliable member of the CSK franchise scoring a total 320 runs for them. However he has now joined his fellow compatriots as they train ahead of the IT20 World Cup.

Sam Curran had also been part of the CSK franchise and took nine wickets in nine games for them. He has recently however sustained a stress injury in his lower back and will not only miss the IPL final but has also had to pull out of the IT20 World Cup.

Eoin Morgan captained his side, KKR, in their qualifying match, however was out for a duck after being bowled by Anrich Nortje. It is unknown whether he will continue to captain his IPL franchise for the final or whether he should travel to captain the England T20 squad ahead of their World Cup Campaign.

England will play their first warm-up match on Monday 18 October 2021 before competing in their first competitive match as part of the Super 12 against the West Indies on 23 October 2021.
