It is El Palmar, a village in south-eastern Spain that can claim Carlos Alcaraz as one of their own. Without question, he is already a hero there, and is likely to become even more of one after his first Wimbledon men’s singles victory.

If you are keen to see visual proof of how much a hero Carlos Alcaraz is in El Palmar, Murcia, you only have to visit there to see a giant mural of him that was painted in 2022. In that year, a 400m2 mural was painted of him at the entrance to El Palmar.

Murcia Today said that “The mural was painted by Sbah, an artist from Mazarron, and reflects the artist’s own distinctive style: irregular shapes with straight lines in blue, lilac, grey and white to immortalise a backhand of Carlos Alcaraz. With the help of two other young women from the Murcia Graffiti Office, Sbah completed the work in just 8 days, working 16 hours a day.”

The inauguration of the mural took place on June 6 2022 and Carlos Alcaraz was there in person to witness it. He was joined by the El Palmar mayor and a host of other dignitaries. At the time Carlos Alcaraz said: “I’m very proud to represent the Murcia region and bring the name of El Palmar to every corner of the world.”

How much did Carlos Alcarz win at Wimbledon?

Carlos Alcaraz took home a reported home £2,350,000 ($2.9m) while Novak Djokovic won £1,175,000 ($1.49m). This is said to be an 11.90% increase from a year ago.
