A Jet2 flight from Edinburgh to Ibiza was forced to divert as police arrested a passenger on board over an alleged “sexual offence”

A Jet2 plane was forced to divert after the cabin crew “raised concerns” over a passenger on board due to a medical incident and another passenger was arrested once the aircraft had landed due to an “alleged incident on board”. The flight from Edinburgh Airport to Ibiza had to change course and land at Bristol Airport at around midday yesterday (Tuesday 4 June), Jet2 said in a statement.

Flight LS789 from Edinburgh was en route to the Spanish island and holiday hotspot at 7.40am on Tuesday. The flight was diverted to the south west of England when the crew raised concerns over a passenger who needed medical attention.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police also boarded the flight when they received more information and arrested a man on suspicion of a sexual offence. Another flight was rearranged for the remaining passengers.

A police spokesman said: "A Jet2.com flight from Edinburgh to Ibiza was safely diverted to Bristol Airport this morning (Tuesday 4 June). The crew raised concerns regarding a passenger, who has received medical attention upon landing.

“Attending officers subsequently received information, prompting the arrest of a male passenger on suspicion of a sexual offence, who has been taken into custody. We can confirm this relates to an alleged incident onboard the aircraft. Enquiries into what happened are at an early stage and continue.”

A Jet2 spokesman added: "We can confirm flight LS789 from Edinburgh to Ibiza diverted to Bristol Airport earlier today, so police could offload a passenger following an incident onboard. As this is a police matter, we cannot comment any further at this stage. We have arranged for a standby aircraft and crew to fly other customers to Ibiza.”
