Naples Italy: Tourist, 30, killed while walking down street with boyfriend after statue crashes onto her head
A tourist has been killed after a statue fell from a building and landed on her head while she was walking down a street in Italy.
Chiara Jaconis, 30, was strolling through Naples with her boyfriend when suddenly a statue fell from above and crashed down on her head. She was rushed to hospital but sadly died two days later from her injuries, according to local reports.
The couple was said to be enjoying one last sightseeing tour through the historic city before heading home to Padua when tragedy struck. Chiara Jaconis was on holiday with her boyfriend Livio Rousseau in celebration of her 30th birthday on 15 September when the incident occurred, the news agency and Italian newspaper L'Unione Sarda reported.

According to ANSA, Jaconis and Rousseau, 29, were heading to the airport to take a flight back home to Padua, Italy, when she was struck by the object. Hours after the incident, a candlelight vigil was held in the city’s Spanish Quarters where Jaconis was struck, Men’s Journal reported.
Jaconis reportedly worked as a store manager at a Prada outlet and had previously managed more than a dozen stores in France. Local politicians, including Naples’ mayor, Gaetano Manfredi, also shared a statement, calling her death “a great sorrow, a tragedy that deeply affects us all,” Men's Journal added. The parents of two children who are suspected of throwing a statue from their home's balcony are now under investigation, Italy’s ANSA said on Thursday 19 September.
