Has Donald Trump declared war on Iran? US President considers range of options including air strike as he demands Iran's 'unconditional surrender'

US President Donald Trump is considering entering the war and joining Israel's strikes on Iran.

He held a meeting on Tuesday with his national security team that lasted nearly 90 minutes. Trump's advisors are divided on the move, which experts say would "completely change" the conflict.

Trump has also fired off a number of conflicting messages over the possibility of US involvement in attacks against Iran. He hinted he had the ability to kill the Iranian supreme leader, but assured the world he wouldn't, then demanded Tehran's unconditional surrender.

Trump claimed to know "exactly" where Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was, branding him an "easy target", adding “we are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now”. But in a post just minutes later, he said: "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!"

The changing nature of Trump's demands and comments raise further questions as fighting continues. Yesterday the US leader was considering a range of options to deploy against Iran including the possibility of a strike.

Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei has vowed to show Israel "no mercy" in a post on social media overnight. Iran's last official update, issued Monday, put the death toll at 224 people killed and 1,277 others wounded.

The possibility of US involvement threatens to seriously escalate fighting that continued overnight and now enters a sixth day. Dozens of Israeli fighter jets struck a centrifuge production facility and multiple missile manufacturing sites, the IDF said, in what it calls a move to disrupt Iran’s nuclear weapons program. The IDF added that over 50 Israeli fighter jets struck multiple military sites in Tehran, including a centrifuge production facility linked to Iran’s nuclear program.

Targets also included factories producing components for surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles. Israel says the strikes are part of a "broad effort to operate against Iran’s nuclear weapons development project."
