Actress Silvia Pinal had been hospitalised earlier this month for a urinary infection.

Actress Silvia Pinal’s death was confirmed by Mexico’s Secretary of Culture on X. The statement read: “The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico regrets the passing of leading actress Silvia Pinal.

“With a career spanning more than six decades, she participated in more than 60 films and plays. Her legacy lives on as a fundamental pillar of cinema, theatre and television in Mexico. May she rest in peace.”

Silvia Pinal’s granddaughter, singer and actress Stephanie Salas, who has 434K followers on Instagram paid tribute to her on the platform and said: “With all my strength, with all my love and with all my being… Thank you beloved grandma” RIP My Beloved Grandmother.”

Stephanie Salas is the daughter of actress Sylvia Pasquel (her grandmother was Silvia Pinal and her grandfather was Rafael Banquell. She is also the niece of singers Alejandra Guzmán and Rocío Banquells.

Silvia Pinal’s daughter Sylvia Pasquel paid tribute to her mother on Instagram and wrote: “Your absence will hurt me forever, but every memory of you will give me the strength to move on, and as long as you live in my heart, I will always be able to feel you are still with me. I will always love you mom. Rest in Peace Silvia Pinal.”

Silvia Pinal was born in the city of Guayamas, located in northwestern Mexico and became one of the leading actresses in what was considered the Golden age of cinema for Mexico which was in the mid-20th century. She started her acting career in the 1949 movie Bamba.

According to CNN, “Over her six-decade career, Pinal starred in dozens of films produced in Mexico, the US and Europe. She gained international fame for her roles in three films by legendary filmmaker Luis Buñuel, first on “Viridiana” (1962), the first Spanish-Mexican production to win the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and later on “Simon of the Desert” (1965) and “The Exterminating Angel” (1967).”

Silvia Pinal also acted alongside Burt Reynolds in the 1969 Mexican-American action film that was entitled Shark! Silvia Pinal is survived by her daughters, actress Sylvia Pasquel, rock singer Alejandra Guzmán and son Luis Enrique Guzmán.

Silvia Pinal was married four times, her first marriage was to Rafael Blanquells, and during this union, Silvia gave birth to her daughter Sylvia. She then married film producer Gustavo Alastriste. Tragically, their daughter Viridiana Alatriste tragically passed away at the age of 19 in a car accident.

Silvia Pinal’s third marriage was to Enrique Guzmán, Enrique was 11 years her junior. Their marriage resulted in two children Alejandra Guzmán and Luis Enrique Guzmán, but they divorced in 1976.

Silvia then wed again for the fourth time and married Tulio Hernández Gómez., a politician and Governer. The couple divorced in 1995.
