Minnie Mouse has been wearing the same red and white polka dot dress since she was first introduced to the world in 1928 - but she’s about to get her first outfit change in 94 years years thanks to British designer Stella McCartney.

Here’s what we know so far about the Minnie Mouse outfit change...

Why has Disney made a change to Minnie Mouse’s outfit?

To mark the 30th anniversary of Disneyland’s Paris resort, Minnie will be swapping her dress for a smart blue trouser suit.

Fans will be pleased to know, however, that she will still have the recognisable bow on her ear and the suit itself will also feature Minnie’s signature bows and polka dots.

Minnie will debut the blue suit, which also features stripes, in the resort from March where she will wear it in time for Women’s History Month.

The outfit was announced to fans earlier this week on the official Disneyland Paris Twitter, with the brand writing ‘Stella McCartney has designed Minnie Mouse’s very first pantsuit, and it’s gorgeous’.

The outfit, which it is believed Minnie will only be wearing temporarily, has been met with mixed reviews on the social media platform.

What has been the reaction to Minnie Mouse’s outfit change?

Lovers of the UK’s best-loved mouse were quick to reply to the tweet with their opinion on the outfit.

Some were upset at the idea of a her well-known dress being replaced, but others were far more concerned that she had lost her classic colours.

One person wrote on Twitter ‘Gosh no. If you’re going to change the dress, at least stay with the red, white, and black colour theme. Where did the blue come from?’.

Others said that they did not like the suit at all, with a few commenting that it looks like pyjamas.

One person, however, welcomed the idea of the trouser suit, calling it ‘cute’ but agreed the colour should not have been changed.

Another Twitter user then pointed out that Minnie does often wear blue at the entertainment resort.

Another person added that the main colour chosen for the anniversary is blue, so Minnie will have to match.

This is not the first time that Disney has come under criticism from some recently. Earlier this week, actor Peter Dinklage called the production of the new Snow White And The Seven Dwarves film a backwards story’.

Minnie was one of the first Disney characters to be created by Walt Disney, and she first appeared on screen in 1928 in Steamboat Willie as the love interest for the beloved Mickey Mouse.

Disneyland Paris, which is located in Chessy, France, a town located 32 km east of the centre of Paris, first opened to customers on 12 April 1992.
