The official synopsis for No Return explains that the family go on holiday for “a chance to unwind and for Kathy and Martin to spend some much-needed together.”

However, the family holiday is thrown into disarray when teenage son Noah is accused of sexually assaulting another guest in their hotel – Noah maintains his innocence, and a fraught legal battle with intense media scrutiny begins.

Writer Danny Brocklehurst described the series as a passion project, and said that “it’s the story of a family caught in a modern nightmare but it allows us to explore themes of parenthood, justice, addiction and consent.”

Is it based on a true story?

No, it’s not. The series was created by writer Danny Brocklehurst, who has commented that while the very simplest elements of No Return were inspired by a friend who experienced some legal trouble on an international holiday, much of it is invented.

Sheridan Smith said that on reading the script “I instantly thought this has never been done. I’ve never read anything like this before.”
