NationalWorld’s Digital Trends Writer, Steven Ross recommends the best shows to watch this weekend and beyond on Screen Babble’s sister podcast Weekend Watch. Highlights to keep on your radar this week include the second season of Amazon Prime’s alternative history drama Hunters, starring Al Pacino and Logan Lerman. Season two includes two dual narratives - one of which will follow Pacino’s character as he establishes the Hunter organisation in the wake of the Second World War. The second storyline will follow the hunters in the 1970s as they head to South America with the aim of eliminating chief Nazi Adolf Hitler, and his wife Eva Braun. All eight episodes of Hunters season two were released on Prime on Friday 13 January.

The second season of Vikings: Valhalla is another big release this week - the series is set 100 years after Amazon Prime series Vikings and follows the Viking Age in the years before the Battle of Hastings. There are eight episodes in season two and they landed on Netflix on Thursday 12 January.

It would be impossible to discuss the biggest upcoming shows without giving a nod to Love Island. The winter edition will be filmed at a new villa in South Africa but the premise remains the same - a group of singles will have the chance to couple up and find the love of their lives (and hopefully win £50,000 and a Pretty Little Thing brand deal) in this super-popular dating show. Love Island begins on ITV2 on Monday 16 January at 9pm.

Nature series Serengeti returns for a third instalment - the six-part series, narrated by Adoja Andoh, follows wild animals of the Serengeti as they struggle to survive in an ever-changing landscape. Serengeti begins airing on BBC1 on Sunday 15 January at 4.35pm with new episodes released at the same time weekly. Episodes will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer shortly after they are first broadcast.

An honourable mention also goes to Kaleidoscope, a Netflix original starring Giancarlo Esposito which was released on New Year’s Day. The series follows a major heist, but the stand-out element of the show is that the episodes can be watched in any order and still make sense. There are more than 40,000 different ways to watch Kaleidoscope, so have at it!
