Wrexham FC’s new co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney attended their first game on Tuesday (26 October), watching the team away at Maidenhead.
The Hollywood duo watched on as ten-man Wrexham lost 3-2 against Maidenhead United.
The pair were accompanied by a crew filming an access-all-areas documentary, called Welcome to Wrexham.
In an Instagram post after the game, Reynolds shared pictures from the match with the caption: "Football is a staggering, heartbreaking, gorgeous, tommy-gun of soul-deadening, evil and beauty and I’m never sleeping again ever, ever."
Here’s all you need to know about why the two stars bought the National League football team.
Why did Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buy Wrexham FC?
Speaking to This Morning presenter, Alison Hammond, Reynolds revealed why he purchased the team.
“Why did you buy a football team, Ryan?” Hammond asked.
Reynolds said: "It seemed like an interesting proposition. We were looking at a bunch of different teams and the thing for me that really struck a chord about Wrexham was how intrinsically tied communities are to their football club.
"It’s a more all encompassing project with Wrexham - their supporters, their community, and taking them back into the English Football League. That is our goal and our hope. We are super excited."
The pair also explained why they chose Wrexham out of all of the clubs in the National League, with a simple answer of “Why not?”.
Reynolds and McElhenney have already made a £2 million investment in the club – which has been in fan ownership since 2011
The duo have explained they have four goals for the buyover: reinforcing Wrexham’s values, expanding the club’s identity and awarding the fans’ loyalty and dedication to their club with a promise of a shot at success.
Reynolds and McElhenney have also revealed potential plans to renovate the Racecource Ground, and to build a new permanent training facility.
