In the wake of Netflix’s ‘Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’, social media users have argued that Kesha’s ‘Cannibal’ song referencing infamous killer Jeffrey Dahmer is insensitive to the families of the victims.

Pebe has over 67,000 followers and has racked up over 10,000 likes on her apology video.
Pebe said: “Some context on the lyric that’s bothering people 12 years later. All opinions are valid. Not meant to shut anyone down, just more info.
“The whole Jeffrey Dahmer lyric in ‘Cannibal’ is a big controversy right now, I thought I’d just say a few things about it because that was my line that I wrote in ‘Cannibal.’

“At the time, Kesha and the other writer were too young to even know who Jeffrey Dahmer was. Literally, the way it happened is I have this rhyming program called Master Writer for Songwriters.
“We were looking for a rhyme for ‘goner,’ at the very end of the widest rhymes was Jeffrey Dahmer. I was like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s a perfect lyric.
“Not to be insensitive to anybody whose families were involved in this and lost loved ones. At the time, it was a song that we were writing about Kesha... It was a tongue-in-cheek funny song. It was not actually about cannibalism. It was just a title.”

Pebe apologised to the families of the victims and explained that she never meant to hurt or upset anyone.

The lyrics from the song ‘Cannibal’ say “eating boys for breakfast” in the chorus and the killer’s name is referenced in the second verse.
The song was written for Kesha’s ‘Cannibal’ album released in November 2010. The singer released four studio albums throughout the noughties.

Katy Perry, 37, has also faced backlash for her 2013 song Dark Horse featuring Juicy J, while Eminem has been slammed for his three songs that mention the serial killer in their lyrics.
Dahmer, who murdered 17 men and boys over a decade, only served two years of his life imprisonment as he was killed by another prisoner.
